Fabric Guide: Understanding What You Wear
The fabric of a garment determines how it drapes, breathes, and ages. Understanding materials is the first step to building a wardrobe that lasts.
Natural Fibres
Cotton is breathable and versatile — perfect for everyday wear. Linen keeps you cool in summer but wrinkles easily, which is part of its relaxed charm. Silk offers unmatched luxury with a natural sheen that synthetics cannot replicate. Wool regulates temperature year-round and holds structure beautifully.
Semi-Synthetic Fabrics
Viscose and modal drape like silk at a fraction of the cost. They are made from natural cellulose but processed chemically. These fabrics work well for flowing dresses and blouses.
When Synthetics Make Sense
Performance wear, stretch, and water resistance are areas where polyester and nylon excel. In fashion, a small percentage of elastane blended with natural fibres adds comfort without sacrificing quality.
Reading the Label
Always check the composition tag. A garment labelled "silk blend" might contain as little as 10% silk. The higher the percentage of quality fibres, the better the garment will wear and feel against your skin.
